John
McKenzie - My line descends from Alexander was a Sergeant in the 40th Regiment
of Foot, of His Majesty’s Army. On November 3, 1764 he petitioned the
Honorable Cadwallader Colden, Lieutenant Governor and Commander, in and over the
Province of New York, for a tract of land. Alexander's petition was granted and
he received title to land in Port Henry, New York which is located on the west
bank of Lake Champlain. We have no record of Alexander ever settling on the
land, but believe his son William McKenzie did settle there. Alexander may have
settled in Halifax or Nova Scotia. Alexander’s son, William McKenzie
(1759-1815) married Deborah Towner (1765-1848), daughter of Ithiel and Sarah
Towner.
